To enroll in this course, students are required to complete Defensive Handgun Tactics 1 or an equivalent Level 1 course from a reputable provider. Course Overview
Defensive Handgun Tactics 2 builds directly on the foundation set in Level 1, progressing quickly into active, scenario-based training. The course is designed to increase each student’s ability to respond quickly and effectively in high-stress, real-life situations. The emphasis is placed on live-fire drills, with less time spent on lecture material. This structure allows students to fire more rounds and engage in more hands-on training throughout the day.

The course starts with a live-fire accuracy analysis to verify each student’s fundamental shooting skills before moving on to more advanced techniques.

Live Fire Manipulations
The core of Defensive Handgun Tactics 2 revolves around a range of live-fire drills designed to simulate the challenges of real-life defensive situations. These manipulations include:

Weapons Presentation While Moving Offline: Students practice drawing their handgun and moving out of the line of attack at the same time, increasing both speed and safety in defensive shooting situations.
Reloads and Malfunction Clearance: Reloads and malfunction clearing are practiced while moving and utilizing cover. This ensures students can continue to engage in a defensive encounter even if equipment fails or requires reloading.
Firing Under Stress: Students will fire while simulating an accelerated heart rate, testing their ability to perform under pressure in standing, kneeling, and urban prone positions. Afterward, they practice safely fighting their way back to a standing position.
Movement and Firing Techniques: The course includes shooting while moving in various directions—forward, backward, and laterally—so students are prepared to evade attackers while staying engaged.

The course culminates in a series of complex drills that combine all the learned skills, simulating a variety of real-life scenarios.

Physical Limitations
DFI understands that some students may have physical limitations. The instructors are experienced in working around these concerns and can modify the training to accommodate most physical challenges. Certification
Upon successful completion of Defensive Handgun Tactics 2, students will receive a certificate of completion. However, it’s important to note that this certification does not meet the requirements for obtaining an Oregon Concealed Handgun License (ORS 166.291).

Handgun with holster
At least 3 magazines and pouches
350+ rounds of ammunition
Appropriate clothing for outdoor movement
Hat, eye, and ear protection
Lunch and snacks (no refrigeration on site)

Rental equipment for firearms, ammunition, and safety gear is available for an additional fee if reserved in advance.
