Certification Process
After completing the course’s lecture portion, you’ll be required to take a 50-question, closed-book, multiple-choice exam. To pass, you must score at least 85%, demonstrating that you’ve retained the critical information covered during the course.
Upon successful completion of the course, you’ll receive all the necessary paperwork to apply for your certification with the Oregon DPSST’s Private Security Division. You must submit your application packet within 180 days of completing the course. The packet includes:
- PS-1 Application for Licensure or Certification of Private Security Services Provider
- Completed FD-258 Fingerprint Card (fingerprinting is done during the course)
- PS-6 Affidavit of Instructor and Private Security Provider Testing Results
- If applicable, a completed PS-20 Form for a Temporary Work Permit
- PS-27 Code of Ethics
- Nonrefundable state license fee of $124.25, which includes both the state license fee and the background check fee (paid directly to Oregon DPSST)
Please note that you are not authorized to work as a private security professional until your application has been submitted, and you either have your certification card or a temporary work permit.
